Home Maintenance Checklist

Taking care of your home requires regular maintenance. A checklist darted on your refrigerator reminding you the very same will take the burden off of your mind and will stop testing your capability to remember them. Thus, make sure to keep on top of things with our printable home maintenance checklist, handily set out for all seasons.

This may not be an exhaustive list of everything you need to do in your home. After all, we understand that everyone’s home is different and the to-do list for a new build apartment will look very different from that of a listed building. But, we all have two things in common: our home is our castle and is indeed one of our biggest investments. So, here are some key things to do to take care of it.

The tasks are united by all seasons which makes it a generalised list helping you tackle them better. Check everything off and you should avoid unexpected costs from calling in the professionals later down the line.

Monthly Essentials

  1. Inspect your fire extinguisher, smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
This one is very important but is an extremely easy task. Just check that the nozzle of the fire extinguisher is clean with no accumulated dust. Make sure there is no visible wear and tear on the body of the fire extinguisher. Also, remember to test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

  2. Inspect drains and peek into the functioning of your Dishwasher
Check the bathtub and sink drains to ensure there is no debris accumulated. In addition to this remember to top up salt and rinse aid in your dishwasher.

  3. Clean bathroom accessories and look for lint in your Washing Machine
Cleaning them at regular intervals helps to remove mineral deposits, keep them like new, and avoid rust formation. Remove fluff from your tumble dryer. You must also check the water softener and replenish salt if needed.

  4. Dust every nook and corner of the house
Clean all the appliances, windows, and furniture. Use detergent and a steady supply of water to wash the area that is not carpeted. Do not forget to cover the edges and other areas which might get spoiled or stained by water.

  5. Do a little gardening maintenance!
Of course, you water your garden regularly, but it is also important to maintain your garden periodically. Inspect for any dead plants that need to be removed and trim the edges of the bushes for them to look neat. Pluck weeds and other debris in the garden.

  6. Chimney or Gas pipe
Clean the kitchen chimney for uninterrupted flow of smoke from the kitchen and also check gas pipes for incorrect bends, breakage or leakage. Also, check there are no loose ends on the gas pipe for your safety.

And, the most important of all!

  7. Repair the electrical appliances, devices or even furniture as you go on inspecting them
